I think we all can agree that it is nothing to be ashamed of, ideally, nor scared of, or made to feel awkward around or treated as some odd taboo. We openly lead by example, my wife and I hide nothing about our own love life from our kids as it is natural and a part of everyday life for a couple, but ultimately their choices are their own. Quite the opposite in fact, we foster it, support it, and try to show them it’s all okay in whatever they end up deciding to do. I say let’s just welcome it in all it’s many forms and recognize that regardless of what we end up doing or may never do, life goes on without us still.Īs parents to two kids, a daughter and son, who are experiencing this crazy thing called life now each in their own various ways, we don’t do anything to hinder their journey of self discovery. Sexuality shouldn’t be treated as a taboo, it’s a fundamental aspect of who we all are, for better or worse. Life is not easily controlled, things randomly happen, for a reason and also for no reason whatsoever. Which I suppose is why my wife and I as well as some others we know, some family and friends, all recognize this paradigm and try to embrace it with an openmind and without judgement.
Out of sight, out of mind, because not talking about a “thing” will of course always make it just disappear into the abyss, right. No calendar or our birthdate nor any one country’s rules and laws (which vary sometimes dramatically as compared on a global basis), stop our sexuality from emerging and blossoming, as much as some people still may wish it could be willed away and ignored and controlled. A youthful time of wonder, magic, anxiety, thrill, fear, anticipation, longing, confusion, lust, attraction, love and just simple curiosity. We don’t choose such things, our body, our mind, play a role but it is mostly Mother Nature driven by biology is what dictates our sexual path and the time frame when it begins and how it flourishes or is controlled.Ī distinction we all share, regardless of our unique tastes, is we were all young once upon a time, and therefore can relate to what goes on in one’s mind and body when we were at that age of discovery. Sexuality is a part of our humanity, regardless of age, from an early time in our youth until the day we die basically. Primal animal instincts, which we all have, along with our desires, interests, fantasies and other things which we are merely curious about, can be verbally silenced by society’s whims yet this will not make them ever go away nor stop others from actually experiencing. Particularly anything sexually related, even though we all know this is simply a part of nature and biology, no matter how hard some may try to paint this with an illicit or dirty banner.
Especially since about half the populace in many areas is still very conservative in general, and there is no changing their inhibitions or being able to open their minds to some of life’s broader realities. I can certainly appreciate the reluctance and caution people have associated with discussing or writing about what many still consider to be taboo subjects.
